Sous le cagnard, un petit bonhomme de dix ou onze ans, ruisselant de sueur, s'époumone dans un khene, un orgue à bouche. Il fait face à une horde de touristes charmés par tant d'exotisme, et qui le shootent à grands coups de reflex, en oubliant fréquemment le gobelet placé à ses pieds... Je me fait haïr en interrompant le show, mais, j'ai surtout droit à un sourire lumineux de la part du pauvre gosse en l'emmenant boire un jus d'orange glacé à l'ombre...

In the heat, a young fellow of about 10 or 11, the perspiration pouring off him, is wearing himself out playing a kind of mouth organ (called a 'khene' in Thai). He is facing a large crowd of tourists who find this kind of exoticism so charming. They are busily taking photographs yet seldom notice the small cup placed in front of him. They hate me for interrupting the show but I am certainly entitled to this poor kid's shining smile as I take him for an iced orange juice in the shade.
