In the streets of Nong Khai an old monk is smiling.. Dressed in saffron robe, he carries a bowl in which he will receive food for the day. Early in the morning he has accepted offerings from tradesmen and from the faithful waiting for him in front of their houses. He thanks them with a prayer in Pali, the liturgical language derived from Sanskrit. Now he will return to the temple to share with his fellow monks the offerings he has received…I love to listen to the monks early in the morning intoning their prayers.
